ABSENCES, APPOINTMENTS, CHANGE IN DISMISSAL...Please contact the office if your child will be absent, or has an appointment scheduled during the school day, or if your child’s dismissal is changed in some way.
LUNCH, SNACKS…..We always have students with food allergies, so we instruct the students that they are not allowed to share food. Our class will have a morning snack time and another one towards the end of the day. The students are allowed to bring a snack each day, or finish their lunches, and I also offer pretzels (Kroger brand).
CLASS PARTIES...we will have a Fall Party, a December Craft Morning, a Valentine Party, and an end of the year family picnic. There will be sign-ups at Curriculum Night, if you want to help in some way with the parties. Generally, we encourage parents to choose just one party to attend during the year, so that we don’t have too many people, and/or that we have enough people to help. There will be room parents that contact the people that have signed up to help with the party, or to donate items for the party. The Family Picnic is for all our parents and students!
PARTY INVITATIONS... Please be aware that students are not allowed to pass out personal birthday party invitations at school, unless every student in the class is invited.
TOYS...Generally, toys from home are not allowed in school. Occasionally, I will ask the students to bring in particular items that we will use for special activities.
SUPPLIES….every few weeks, we will do a check on our class supplies and a note will come home if your child needs glue sticks, crayons, etc.
HOMEWORK….Your child will have reading to do each day. The Bag-a-Book will come home with specific instructions enclosed, starting towards the end of September. Your child will have a bag, with about 5 books, and a record sheet to record the reading. The record sheet needs to be completed and initialed by the parent, not the student. Please return the entire bag every day….we use these at school, too. Your child will be tested on a regular basis and moved up to a new level as the tests are completed and passed. Please be aware that some books will seem easy….they have been read at school at least once or twice before they come home. If a child is reading longer books, there may only be one or two of them in the bag, so that the child can focus on completing those with good understanding. Besides the Bag-a-Book reading, there will also be grade level math homework each week. I will cover the specifics on that when we meet for Curriculum Night.
